The ancient Ephesus is about 20km away from Kusadasi. From Kusadasi, we took a taxi there and back before catching a bus to Pammukkale in the afternoon.

In addition to the ancient Ephasus in Selcuk, there are House of Virgin Mary, Artemis Temple (one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world), and Basilica of St John in this area.  We visited only the ancient Ephesus.  We skipped Artemis Temple as the site truly has not much left to see.

The ancient Ehpesus with its rather well-preserved ruins is rather impressive.  Visiting the ruin site helps me understanding the New Testament of the Holy Bible better. St. Paul stopped by this city twice before his incarceration in Rome.  Legend has it that Apostle John spent his last days here after his exile to Patmos island.  Since at the cross Jesus entrusted Mary the mom to the care of John, therefore legend also has it that Mary died here as well.  That is why there are House of Virgin Mary and Basilica of St John in this area.

I found this website very informative regarding Ephesus and other ruin sites in the area.  Hope you will find it helpful as well.
